Knowing how to stand out from the crowd and show customers you have something different to offer is critical in this competitive market. It’s amazing how many firms and their tradespeople are doing great jobs but missing out on an opportunity to gain an edge – and ultimately increase their sales.

By being TrustMark registered, you will get that additional recognition as it is the only Government-endorsed ‘find a tradesman’ scheme for all trades in and around the home. In addition, every firm’s technical skills are independently checked by a Scheme Operator through on-site inspections, as well as background checks on its trading records and financial status. Qualified inspectors undertake these visits, meaning that technical competence, as well as proper business practices and customer satisfaction are properly monitored.

We recently welcomed Stroma Certification to TrustMark as they achieved Scheme Operator status and demonstrated a readiness to embrace the high standards and responsibilities we expect of all scheme operators. They will bring many more installer members into the energy saving field and homeowners can feel confident that if they employ a TrustMark-registered Stroma installer that they are working with the best in the business.

Becoming a TrustMark Scheme Operator reinforces Stroma’s commitment to supporting the installer industry and enables its members to have an additional mark of quality, protection and reassurance to display for customers, which reinforces them as competent, qualified installers.

Boosting the visibility

We are continually looking at ways to boost the visibility of TrustMark registered firms to householders across the UK and have been finding better ways to improve consumer empowerment in the home repair, maintenance and improvement (RMI) sector – including user-friendly web and telephone advice for people to find TrustMark firms.

Already this year around five million firms details have been given to the public as a result of searches on TrustMark’s website and calls to its 24/7 telephone helpline – an increase of 77% on the same period just two years ago. The public is increasingly using our database of over 12,700 firms as their main source of information in finding fully inspected and insured local tradespeople from 38 different trades.

We also have the involvement and support of many consumer protection organisations and other referral agencies, including the Citizens Advice, Trading Standards Institute, Age UK and the Homeowners Alliance and many local authorities across the UK, and together we are signposting people to the reputable good firms.

We fundamentally believe that on-site inspected tradespeople by qualified inspectors are a better bet for consumer protection than just simply rated tradesmen. Our strategy is to ensure that homeowners know where to go for advice and be signposted to TrustMark firms now and in the future. We are rapidly building a network of organisations that share the same values – a not-for-profit ethos and a burning desire to empower householders and boost confidence in good businesses.
